Bay Area Dealer Nonsense
Prices may not be as geographic as we might think. Looking at advertised prices near Central Ohio for 2007 cars (28 Mar 16). The bulk of them are at commercial dealers
$27.3/40K miles
$25.5/33K
$21.9/48K
$20.0/61K
$20.0/75K
$20.0/38K
$18/122K * 2006 model
Average price $21.8 but average mileage is just over 40K if we ignore the 122K car.
Not sure what the mystical attraction to the GPW (white) cars may be nor why it commands a premium price but that may be geographic. None of these cars are white.

Chuck, haven't checked historical production #s, but I believe the demand GPW is high relative to supply. Thanks for the ref points. I think the statements made thus far re: silicon valley are more around the fact that there are a greater # of people willing to throw money around vs act rationally.
@manystles, that GPW in Georgia sold!

I know what dealer that particular car is at. They will most likely get asking or just slightly under like 19.5. They usually always have some interesting cars but they are slightly sleezy. I sold them my 2013 STI about 2 years ago that was full stage 2 with turboback, protune, gauges, suspension etc etc. They put it back to stock for me and sold it as a CPO.
I would avoid them..... find a seller doing a private sale.

S2TEK, I live in East Bay. We all know California probably has the highest s2000 price tag in the country, but this is waaaay over priced. I would would pay $22,000 if it is 60k miles. If you are digging GPW with red and willing to pay for a premium, how about max out at $18,500 the most like other said, but again I wouldn't buy this one because it is over priced. Few months about I saw a 2008 GPW local post with 55k for $24,000. Give it enough time you will find what you want.
How have you been searching for an S2000? If you haven't already, install the craigslist app on your phone with alerts, to get the heads up when an S2000 gets listed.
Here's a few that I came across in a 5 minute search:
https://portland.craigslist.org/clc/ctd/5497454294.html
https://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/5477125448.html
And, if you're not hard pressed on buying a GPW, this BB is a good deal. You would essentially be paying the same as you would with that 115k GPW, but this one has 49K, OEM hardtop, and up to date on maintenance.

@Inspired, I'd say "highly intermittently", as it's been more of a lingering desire vs a top priority for me. Thanks for the listings! Those are really clean examples.
@amani, yep. The joys of the bay area! I see it as one of many taxes for all the great weather and industry we have here. What can ya do. :] I'm actually more open to straight black interior as well. I feel like I may be getting slightly too old for the more sporty red/black, haha.
That dealer countered my standing offer at $19K + taxes/title, which is more reasonable but the high mileage still makes it a harder decision.

All the bay area dealerships think S2000's are NSX's. I looked at a few cars on dealer lots when I was trying to purchase mine and they were all heavily marked up and no one would budge on price. They all told me that it's a very hot car and they go quickly at those prices. Private party sales are the only way to go in this area.
06+ in GPW seems to command the highest price premium, and you're in probably the hottest possible market for it, at the hottest possible time of the year. It's still a bit steep (I paid $21K out the door from a San Jose Honda dealer for my 06 with 17K, 6 years ago), but I think he'll probably move it for $19K-$20K.
