There are basically 3 styles of intake that are popular for non-turbo or non-supercharged cars: (the list is not complete, but gives you some names)

Snorkle/Air Duct Style:
Spoon
MUZ/PrestigeAutoAccessories

Tube and Filter (Open) Style:
AEM Cold Air Intake V1
AEM Intake V2
Injen Cold Air Intake
Feels Intake

Box/Enclosed Style:
ARC Induction Box (Aluminum)
ASM Intake (Carbon)
Comptech Cold Air Intake
C-West Induction Box (Carbon)
J's Racing Intake (Carbon)
Mugen Intake (Carbon)

The Snorkle/Air Duct Style are really add-ons for the OEM intake, and are generally sited for "gains" in reducing heat-soak and engine bog-down in hot weather and heavy traffic.

The other categories...most will argue about performance back and forth, the gains in sound are said to be quite pleasing, and lately some people with the Tube and Filter/Open style of intake have been posting of hydro-lock (water seizing the engine) due to water entering through their intake in rainy/wet conditions.

Throttle response is usually perceived as improved with most any intake. Typical I/H/E (Intake, Header, Exhaust) upgrades do NOT yield high results in HP gains compared to other Hondas or imports as the S2000 is pretty well tuned from Honda.

Get what will make you happy. If you plan on Autocrossing or Racing, check with your local group about rules and classes, as you may not be allowed to run "stock" if you change the intake.

Have fun with the car!

Don't you have to have the Mugen hood (with the bump on it) and the Mugen bumper (with the hole in it) to make it work as designed? Sounds like a horrific amount of money for a questionable few HP gain. Add it all up and you're talking what, a couple grand?
An AEM can be had for around 200 bucks and may actually gain you more. Just protect it from water ingestion.
you don't HAVE to have it, you can have your oem hood cut to accomodate it if you are daring enough, some people do a better job of cutting it than others mind you.

scott at king motorsports says that not having the bumper or the alex air duct is ok because the snorkel end of it is still getting cold air from in front of the radiator. i personally find that hard to believe it is as good as having a hole in your bumper directly channeling air to the snorkel opening, but what do i know. i have just asked him these questions cuz i want the mugen intake, but i don't like the ss bumper and i don't want to cut my front bumper support like i saw from learnerspermit's? install. again, what do i know, i don't have the intake yet, but soon. this is just what people i have asked had to say about the mugen intake.

I have the K&N FIPK 2 intake, and love it. its pretty cheap to, about $220. it gives you about 8 hp gain, which is pretty good for our car.

I like my Comptech intake but it not as much horsepower compare to the AEM. Here are the good points:
Faster throttle response
Midrange gains
Less heatsoak
Look stock
Carb except
Made of plastic so the heat dosen't absorb

Here are the bad gains:
Still has heatsoak
Cost more the AEM
Not the best horsepower gain

If I understand correctly the Spoon add-on intake does not increase hp. It prevents loss of hp due to heat?

An injen cai produces a lot better dyno figures vs aem v2. aem v2 has much worse power gains than the original aem cai (check aem's website).

Do you have to cut some plastic out with the Injen like you do with AEM? Because I wanted the comptech but now I found out it won't clear a Spoon strut bar, so I checked up on AEM, and that's too much to cut out for my taste.
