I think the same plate can only be issued once in the same state. I think you can have duplicates but in different states. In FL they also keep plates out of circulation once they're turned in for several years. In high school I had a plate under my dad's name, once I "grew up" I wanted to keep the same plate when I bought a car under my own name. No such luck. FL said sorry, thanks for playing, you'll have to wait.

I forgot my R1's plate PUREVL, only allowed 6 letters on motorcycle plates.
