Default The best shift knob

I'm looking for all of you fellows s2k inputs on the best shift knob not only because it looks cool but how good of a feeling you get while shifting. I've used the stock one and also a CR one which feels really nice while shifting but I'd like to hear other opinions.

Thanks

my shameless self promotion and plug:

http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/insid...hift-knob.html

Well I have been on 8thcivic since October 2008 and have (like the rest of you) gone through my share of shift knobs. With my recent purchase of an S2000, which by the way already has extremely short throws, I thought I could make shifting that much better by installying my spherical Type R replica knob.

What I found was that the lack of a counter-weighted knob, combined with a reduction in throw height actually made shifting worse. The shifting experience was notchier and while more aggressive, it didn't feel as intuitive to the driver.

For the past year or so I have always come back to the beauty of the Modulo Civic Type R shift knob. There are some key design elements that I have felt have not been matched (all at once) by other shift knobs on the market:

1) Suede or buckskin leather wrapped for constant temperature feel and added grip during spirited driving or track days
2) Side grip design purposeful for those who reverse grip and pull to up/down shift
3) Heavy counter-weighted knob to add leverage for shifting
4) Taller design to aid with leverage for shifting

I've noticed (especially with my AP1) that I shift faster with better leverage than I do with a spherical knob that reduces the height of the knob. This is, in my opinion, due to the added smoothness of the shifting sequence and is a very good example of the old addage "smooth is fast"

Anyways, for all these reasons the Modulo Type R knob has always had my attention but no one offers a replica. The closes I've seen is the Key!s racing knob which in my opinion is ugly and over priced.

So I've decided to bite the bullet and make my own! I realize the project will cost me an arm and a leg but I figure if there is interest, I can have more manufactured and sold, and if not, at least I will finally have a shift knob that I think is perfect and something I can truly call my own.

----

Pics of Modulo Knob for reference:

My Design:

The design is actually a lot more complex than it looks and designing it took a few iterations to get the shape right given the limited visuals I had for the replica.

I will be fine tuning this week and sending the files off to get quoted for manufacture and doing some sourcing for talented auto interior fabricators that can wrap the knob in suede.

I forgot to mention the knob is currently weighted at around 430 grams using 403 grade steel. If I can get my hands on some stainless, that should push the weight up a bit as well.

Will keep everyone updated on the progress. Thanks for looking

^^ Uhh... not sure about that. Regardless, a perfectly round polished shift knob is mighty handsome, IMO. The Anvil would be great as well.

I really like the Voodoo Ti but I don't think you can get them anymore.

Keep in mind that "best" is always highly subjective, regardless of topic. Not everyone prefers the same shift knob or else we'd all be using the same one. Your personal preferences will play a big role.

Asking what the "best" anything is, is a pretty useless question. What's the best shoes? What's the best watch? What's the best sunglasses? Actually the answer is simple and clear. It's whatever I own!
Best shift knob? It's one that's in the shape of a large boob and it oozes creamy white stuff when it's squeezed. Next, yer gonna ask what's the best color of car to buy.

You know you dindnt have to be a chode about it. A simple answer would of been enough. I was just asking for people's inputs and advice.

I can't fathom why anybody would replace the shift knob with anything but a countersunk design
The shorter throw is just such a great mod

I can't find a reason to switch from OE other than cosmetic appeal (obviously, opinions differ) or replacing the worn leather.
