I wanted to know if your planning running good times, is it better to shift at 9k or sooner. If sooner, when?

Personally, I run it to the red every time I'm trying to squeeze out the very fastest run. However, since the hp peak is at 8300rpm, some say that shifting right at that peak you is the best way to go. I don't disagree with that, but I will say that after 8300, it's not as if the peak completely falls off, you still have usable power there...and moreover, it races to 9k from 8.3k so fast that you have to be very quick and paying a lot of attention to grab the next gear right at 8.3k. But obviously, it can be done...

I let it rip all the way also because it's just damn fun...

I've heard it's best to shift at the peak point too ... but catching it is a problem (as I found out .

ANother question: is it bad to hit the fuel-cut off? I don't do it much ... but on several occasions i've done it on purpose cause I didn't want to shift in that particular section of my overtaking move.

Can't say off the top of my head, but I would think you are prone to falling out of VTEC shifting at 8300??

Also, you are probably making more power at 9000 than at 6000 when you shift, so I would just redline each gear.

My $.02

We went through this discussion once before and the bottom line was to shift at the redline for fastest acceleration (with 5 to 6 maybe needing a bit quicker shift). If you recall it was all about the power, rpm, and gear ratio being transformed into force.

We can ask Luis to resurrect the force chart and do the math again but it is just easier to trust that revving to the red is the right answer.

I've got your equation: Hitting rev limiter = embarassing lurch, followed by laughter from the 16 year-olds you're trying to impress.

I say run it to red... that's what it's there for.

i would think that our engine's torque curve likes the higher RPM shifts as it brings the RPM's up in the next gear.

Besides, 9K sounds better than 6K.
