Default Best Tires for S2K?

I have wear marks showing through my rear pair of Toyo TS-1's (installed after-market by previous owner on 17" Momo Twins).

I have used TS-1's on my 99 Miata and love the stick, but the S2K seems to eat soft tires.

Does any one know of good performance tires that will last longer than 10K miles?

Most people I know feel that the OEM 16" Tires that come stock are the best. I've tried the S02-Pole positions and they lasted 6k miles. The Michelin Pilot Sports lasted about 15k miles.

I don't have any suggestions for the 17" wheels.

I would recommend reading in the "The Tire Rack's Wheel and Tire" forum, there are a lot of different opinions and tastes, but it boils down to this:

1. The OEM S-02's seem to be the best gripping warm weather street tire available.

2. Bridgestone S-03's provide better wet traction and longer treadwear, but feel a bit less sticky.

3. Yokohama AV Sport (not positive on the model) seem to be a good substitute but best results seem to come from getting larger tires front and back. To me this seems like a hassle.

4. You save a lot of money on Kumo's, but it doesn't appear that many S2000 owners want to take a chance on a less known performance street tire.

5. Many other brands/models are mentioned but the 4 listed above get the most attention.

Have I missed anything?

Hope this helps.

Anyone ever try Falken Azenis? These are basically the stickiest street tires you can buy, and are the current standard in Solo II street tire classes. I have them on my car and they are unbelievable, I'm wondering if anyone has tried them on an S2000.

I'd venture to say that there's a few good replacements.

1. OEM.
2. Michelin Pilot Sport
3. Pirelli PZero Rosso / Asymmetrico

There's probably others that'd be good, but those are some of the best out there. I wouldn't recommend Falken's Azenis. Yes it's sticky as hell as a dry tire, but I hear it's not very good in the rain. Most of you I'm sure are at least somewhat practical, so...

Maybe as an autocross tire, though! (If you don't want slicks.)

Not sure what size is best for 17" though... But I'm sure some people must. I only say that because of all the talk of the rear tire size not being "correct" ... (i.e. it reads as a 225, but it's really a 245?)
