Default Better gas mileage with MUGEN

Got my Mugen exhaust installed about a week ago now and i am seeing better gas mileage. On the average i am getting about 15 miles more per tank.

BTW, i couldnt be happier with the great tone of the sound and the looks! The car does feel more responsive. The sound of the Mugen down low is great and the FI sound of the MG CAI at high RPM's is music to my ears!

i wonder why you get better gas mileage with the mugen exhaust. maybe because its lighter weight?

Hey Dmenace, I am just wondering if its possible to hear a sound clip of your Mugen exhaust revving and accelerating? I haven't heard one with n/a motor. If not, how would you describe the sound, is it stockish?

I just had my mugen exhaust installed yesterday and I love it. My check engine light was on prior to installation due to the secondary 02 sensor didnt like what it was reading....i reset it and it came back on within a few minutes with both comptech exhaust and stock exhaust. The check engine light remained on all afternoon (after mugen install) as well as this morning when I started the car. About half way to work the check engine light went off Why?? I have no idea. If anyone has an idea why a different exhaust would cause my secondary 02 to like what its reading please chime in. I am curious.

The best way i can describe the sound is deeper. Its not loud and high pitched like say an integra with an exhaust. It is louder mainly at RPM's below 6, one thing i like is that it doesnt overpower the VTEC sound. It looks great too, the piping looks bronze colored when a car shines their light in back of you.

SilverSurfer,

noticed anything yet with the mugen compared to your comptech?

interesting.

i would assume that with a newer exhaust (esp. one that make a little more oomph) you'd have your foot in it more and get worse mileage. i wonder if the Mugen setup could really be that much more efficient than stock?

either way, congat's on your purchase and i hope you enjoy it. i'm leaning towards the Mugen CAI/header/exhaust combo for my S once the factory warranty has expired.

Well the butt dyno doesnt show any power gains but it is quieter and seems to have better throttle response if that is possible. All in all a better setup than Comptech IMO. I did like the comptech tho but it was a little too loud for my tastes...
