Thumbs up Bicycle rack for the S2000?

Hello all,

I am trying to get in shape and bought a new bike and want to take the bike with me from time to time. Does anyone here cycle? Can you recommend a transport rack for the S???

Thanks,
Norman

This works for me

Not sure if it's that exact model, but it's a thule... the bottom bar is adjustable and you would swing it in towards the car more (pushng on the back side of the trunk while the other main bar is on the top of the trunk, the straps affixed to points around the trunk)

A better way that would ensure you don't damage the car would be to install a tow hitch and then just get a hitch mount bike rack.

I know WestSideBilly and also (I believe) Chazmo have bike racks for their Ss. You may want to check with them.

LOL WOW. I would call myself an avid cyclist, and i also work at a bike shop. So heres there deal.

there definitely has to be a rack that mounts on your trunk, they are cheap, like maybe 75 - 150 for nice stuff like saris. But this sort of system will scratch the shit out of your car where the support straps and wedges latch into your trunk and bottom of your bumper. the pedals may also swing into your car, and this racking systems is a drag to put back on and take off since you are constantly tensioning straps.

other method is the roof rack, which obviously is not a question for the S, but a very good sytem, my favorite. next would be the tow hitch rack which is the best since racks slide directly in and out, no assembly or tensioning like with other systems, you can also lock and secure your bikes on this system unlike with others, problem is a tow hitch would look incredibly stupid on an s2. but if you dont care a hitch installed the rite way will cost you about 250$ and a racking system with locks will cost you another 250$ for good stuff like thule or yakima.

basically what im getting at is that having an s2 as your only car is stupid lol. you need another car if you want to be flexible and PRACTICLE. but id still sell my truck for an s2 again any DAY of the week

That's why I don't bike as much as I used to...and why my wife now has a pathfinder

Picturepro uses a hitch rack for his mountain bike. Works really well. If you bike a lot, I think that's by far your best option.

Norman:

I have a Saris Bones rack and they work well if you biking occasionally.
Pros:
Cheap and does the job for up to 3 bikes
Will clear some rear spoilers

Con:
Pain to set up if you bike a lot
Potential to scratch your paint if you are not careful
Most will only work on bikes with a horizontal top tube, otherwise you need an adapter (mostly for comfort or womens bikes)

Chase Race or hitch mount:

Pros:
Quick on and off
Very Sturdy
Holds bikes away from the car, less chance for paint damage
Hitches have other towing uses

Cons:
Expensive
Pain to install, all require bumper to be removed, some require drilling bolt holes
Adds weight to your car

Best is of course owning another car with a hitch or taking up trail running instead

I have to agree on the cons of the rack that mounts on the trunk... Paint & scratches issues and quite some time to mount and unmount.

As far as I know, Honda doens't even allow a tow hook on the back of the car, mainly because of the chassis design I heard...

So I've got the same problem as some of you... Very nice MTB and only car
