Default Bike in the car

Taking a drive up the coast this weekend, and want to do some road riding where I'm staying. Have had bad experiences with trunk racks, so not an option.

It's a small frame, but thinking the whole thing, one way or the other, will have to go in the front seat?

Thanks,

mg

Good Luck! My road bike barely fit in the trunk w/ both wheels removed and the trunk left open and tied down (I wouldn't reccomend it for a long trip or high speeds)

You MIGHT get the frame in the passenger seat but you certainly run the risk of scratching/puncturing/greasifying something. After an exhaustive search and many different trials I came to the conclusion that if you are going to take bikes with you on the S you better look forward to a $500-$700 investment in a hitch and hitch rack setup.

My solution ended up being an '05 NISMO Frontier.....

Unbolt the passenger seat. Use lots of padding.

What about the trunk-mounted racks with rubber feet & padding? Aren't those universal? I was planning to try one out this summer.

Mark,

I take my bike on the S all the time. I am going biking today. I drive on the Freeway as well.

I use a bick rack that clips on the top and bottom of the trunk. Plus I use padding where the supports meet car.

No scratches, no dents, no problem.

Good luck.

MR J

It's tough, but it can be done. Take out the spare tire and put both bike wheels in the well. You can try to fit the spare tire back into the trunk, but if you do, make sure you close your trunk carefully. It'll be tight.

My bike frame barely fit in the passenger seat. I wrapped the frame in towels, placed it in the seat, then slowly raised the top making sure it didn't hit the frame.

Good luck.

I take my bike everywhere with me, so, I ponied up the cash and got my self a hitch. Doug Chase at chaserace.com made and installed it for me. It is $500, but, it has been way worth it. It is easily removable and now I can also pull a small trailer if I need. Check out this web site for photos:

Look into a Saris Bones trunk rack. It's probably one of the best designed trunk racks out there.
