Default Bizarre (not good) Article about new Vortech S2000 in Road & Track

I saw the new Road & Track article about the Vortech equipped S2000. They said they pulled a 13.8 at 105-106 in the 1/4 vs. the 14.1 at 99 vs. the regular S2000 that they pulled. 0-60 went from 5.5 to 5.4. They said a lot of the extra pull is about 1/2 way through the 1/4. Definitely not the numbers I was looking for. Maybe they didn't drop the clutch. They said it was a 113hp gain.

I read the article too, it's the same thing with comptech unit, no increase in low rpm torque so the 60 foot times are probaly the same. The mph is a mid to low 13 sec 1/4.

that a high rpm, low torque car(any of them)puts up these kinds of numbers in the artificial myopia of motomarketing test data.

yes.....u need to to be redlining it to achieve max power gains.....and when u do the car goes correspondingly....faster.

Damn it.
Lets get some definitions right.

Torque is a measure across the WHOLE rpm range.

The term LOW TORQUE these days however, is taken to mean low torque at low RPMS.

The S2k has quite a FLAT torque curve.

The vortech S2k, seems to only spool up from about 6Krpm onwards, hence boosting the upper range of the torque curve, the torque curve is NO LONGER FLAT.

This is not a function of the car really, it is b/c of the type of charger used, (cf eaton).

Just an FYI that the charger is a centrifugal design manufactured by Vortech, not Eaton. Eaton specializes in Roots-type blowers. Good points though. I agree though that the end trap speeds seem on the low end.

I believe that traction was a big issue. I have the seen the car on person and i know it runs on some heavy 3 piece 18's. That alone makes a huge difference.

My only concern is drivability. Seems more like a drag racing kit.

Absolutely correct...so when are we going to get a Roots-type blower for our cars? What ever happened to the guy who was trying to adapt an Italian designed SC to an S2000? I don't know if the high revving nature of the F20C is well suited to the drag of a blower at low RPMs, maybe that's the reason. With the stock airbox removed, there's plenty of room to mount the pieces, so if it's feasible, let's see a Roots solution.

Did you guys see Road and Tracks 1/4 time for the Z06? Nuff said...

Find an S2000 with a Comptech or Vortech supercharger near you. Ask for a test ride or drive. Or just try to keep up with it in your S2000(Good luck!) These cars are FAST! Mine is still under the knife, but I have spent much seat time in the Evolution Autosports Vortech S2000 owned by Mike(m777erlin), and spent time riding behind it in a stock S2000 and video taping it. It is FAST. Don't knock it until you've seen it or driven it in person.

exactly, and if you haven't seen the video of it racing an m coupe in street encounters or photo gallery, well you should, for me that confirms its level of performance
