Default Blown Transmission

I have 2005 w/ 15K miles I was driving to Sebring for the race. I was in 6th gear driving in a straight line. The gear shift started vibrating, car started humming and smoke started spewing out the back. The transmission housing cracked it was dropping fluid on the exhaust. I did not loose ability to change gears. They dropped the old tranny. Put in a new one. Sent the old one to Honda. Under warranty, no charge. I guess I'll never know what happened. Regal Honda in Lakeland FL did a good job.

There may not be any correlation, but what fluid were you using? How often do you change it? Thanks.

I was thinking I was going to read something like transmission explodes and car goes flying off the road or something.
Glad it wasn't that bad.

Since they didn't mention any damage to the case the crack must have been due to a defect which caused it to fail. Had you damaged the case, I'm sure you would have heard about it.

Also though, anytime an engine or tranny actually Cracks Open, the term catastrophic certainly applies.

When my MY00 differential went bad it happened over the course of about 24 hours. I was on my way to New Orleans for a meet when that faint whine wouldn't stop getting louder. I'm glad I had a warning and knew what was wrong before the dealership would admit it (they tried to blame my tires for making the noise). One of my biggest fears is that something will happen instantly and strand me...or worse, cause an accident.
