the design of the engine. each engine is different in how it wears and the way it "interacts" with oil. BMWs are designed to allow the oil to "last longer" so to speak. They do use synthetic oil as well. a good conventional oil "performs" and protects just as well as a synthetic oil, except with it comes to drain interval.

I have gone 10,000+ miles on synthetic oil on the S2000 no problem. A Used Oil Analysis at 9000 miles showed I still had decent oil life left.

3500 is too early to change even conventional oil on the S2000 IMO. If you were to get a UOA of your oil at 3500 I bet it would show that you are changing it too soon. 5000 miles on conventional seems to be adequate.

I can tell you that if I ever paid $40,000+ for a brand new BMW, I sure as heck would not be waiting 15,000mi to get an oil change. A $30 oil change every 5000 mi or so is such a small price to pay for peace of mind...

15 k on an oil change, are they ****ing crazy ? that would never fly in florida weather. You would have the equivalent of roofing tar for lubrication at that point. I wonder if selling more cars would be the reason?

If I remember 3500 miles was the rule for cars that run carburetors. I think it is funny that people will never admit that modern engines with modern oil work better then they did in 1964.

I had a friend that only replaced the oil every 30k miles. He would change the filter every 7.5k and just top up with fresh synthetic. I thought he was insane but he has like 120k on that engine and it still holds good vacuum.

A s2000 with a 9000K red line and Vtec may be a little harder on oil but it should still be good for a long time.

I've changed the oil and filter in our 86 Accord every 3000 miles. It now has 302,000 on it, and the engine has never been apart. Could I have used greater change intervals? Who knows? This has been a successful strategy for me.

I was wondering this as well. What is the recommened intervals for the s2000?

I know on my current car (IS300) they tell me I can go to 7500 miles no problem but I still cringe at the thought, lol.

I guess I just got to used to the 3000 mile mark.
