Default BMW driving event

knowing my opinion doesnt mean much, i have a brief but familiar tale to relate.

friend and I spent all day at a charity bmw drive where they gave us the keys to almost every bimmer available including the new m3 sans chaperone. conclusion was that bmw makes great cars. even the suvs have that sporty feel. but at the end of the day, they are all "compromise" cars that have both luxury and sport, but neither is really given to you fully. great for most people.

but especially after the m3, which was so quiet and composed at over 100 mph, i was reminded about how incredible a car the s2k is. besides lotus, carmarkers just don't make visceral cars like the s2k anymore and we are lucky to be a part of the phenomenon.

I participated in the same event in March, and like you drove just about everything they had to offer. I was very impressed with almost everything we drove except the 6 series. Out of all the cars that they had at the event I left salivating over both the Alpina B7 and the 550i. Those are two truely great cars!!

At the end of the day when it was time to go home I was just as happy getting into my S as I was the day I bought it

we make our living prepping BMWs primarily and couldn't agree more with you. Although BMW does have everyone over a barrel if you need a midsize up performer. Three series is not what it once was though compared to new Benz.

I disagree: I think that if Honda wanted to create a purpose-built sportscar they should have omitted the power top, power windows, power locks, remote keyless entry, etc. IMHO, Honda felt that Americans wouldn't buy the car without these luxo-boulevard-cruiser features. Personally, I think that the money should have been spent on seat and seatback adjusters with a smaller increments, telescoping wheel, etc. to put the driver in the perfect position. The car would be more driveable than it is now and still more useable than an Elise. But that's just one man's opinion.

I think the S2000 has one of the best interiors. I like that it doesn't have a huge ugly center console with tons of knobs and screens and it doesn't have tons of repulsive chrome/aluminum/blingy trim pieces like so many new cars have today. Instead it has a simple and nice control layout.
