I had a fender bender a few weeks ago in my S. Damaged the bumper and broke the passenger tail-light. I brought it to a body shop in town who wanted a bit over $700 to fix it not including the tail-light which I bought online.
At the time it was finished I didn't notice anything wrong with it at first. The next day at home however it was obvious they had done a terrible job. The clear coat had what looked like dust underneath it so that it there appeared to be bumps on the surface. The unpainted section on the bottom of the bumper had oversprayed paint and clear coat on different sections. But what probably bothered me most though was how poorly the fitment was.
I brought it back the following week. They fixed the paint job and it seemed as though they had mostly fixed the fitment issue. Although today I noticed that the fender below the tail-light on the driver side seemed to be warped. Upon closer inspection it looked as though it were bent. I checked the other side and noticed the same thing. It appears they bent the fender in an attempt to make the bumper flush with the fender area.
The fender isn't bent that bad but it just seems they should have gone about solving it in a different way??
Should I go back a third time and make them repair that also???
The mismatch underneath the tail lights you are talking about is a common thing. I have never had my rear bumper cover off and am the original owner of my car and I have the same mismatch. I don't think they bent your quarter panel. Here's a few pics for reference. BTW, mine are on both sides also.
The mismatch is normal. My car has it and has never been hit from behind. I've seen a lot of others have it as well. I actually took my car back to the dealership a couple of weeks after I bought it to complain. They then showed me the rest of the brand new S2000s having the same thing.
Well I went to the body shop this morning and pointed it out and he simply denied bending the fenders.
I tried taking a few pics of it but they just come out blurry. I wish it looked like yours rajun asian but its definitely quite a bit worse than that. The fender is bowed out towards the tip.
I think when they had to bake the bumper to reshape it, it stretched enough to where it doesn't line up at all.
I'm going to take it to another shop tomorrow and see what they can do
