Is the Boot Cover Necessary???
Just curious here...from what I've read...putting the top down in the S2K is a cinch, but putting on the boot cover can be a hassle.
What benefit does it add? I won't have to worry about a plastic rear window since my '02 will have a glass one
But what's its purpose? To keep the top from "bouncing" up and down instead of being locked in place?
Could someone post a pic of the boot cover on and off?
Thanks

For one, you can keep the underside of your top clean from all the dust and debris that flows over that area at speed. And it looks better with it on, especially on the 2002 since the top sticks up alot when it's down.
As reecespieces said, it's mainly for looks and to keep the top from getting any debris in it. Personally, I don't think it takes that long to put on. Once you've done it a few times and the cover is broken in, it's not too bad.
I find that if the top cover is used frequently, it is considerably easier to put on. If it has been folded up in the boot, it is a little harder to stretch it out and get it to sit in the well properly.
In terms of frequency of use, I put the cover on whenever I intend on having the top down for any considerable length of time. If I am likely to be stop-start driving all day (and parking in dodgy places), I don't bother with the tonneau cover and instead just put the roof up and down whenever I stop. I definitely think that the car looks better with the cover on though.

mine is always on... but i am lucky to have the car garaged at home and at the office. it sits with the boot on covered (with the honda cover) at the office to keep the interior clean and to keep curious folks from messing with the insides or dropping things in- as mentioned above it looks much better and does keep the top clean (my car is over a year old and the top has never been cleaned- still looks new; even the rear window looks new!!)
The first time I put mine on was when I bought the car. It was a bit of a hassle and didn't seem to fit well, so I've kept it in it's original plastic cover stored in the garage.
This weekend I went for an all-day top down drive. Wanting some protection for the top, I resurrected the cover. The installation went faster than I remimbered and it sure did look good.
I noticed that after the top was in the sun a couple of hours, it fit really well. I'll start using it more frequently now.
Just one problem. At high speeds the elastic ties vibrate as wind passes over them. Maybe velcro tape will do the trick.

I took the car on a 4 day trip and brought the tonneau cover to keep dirt out (and that awful black brake/tire dust) and the sun off the exposed part of the roof. The problem was putting the top up and having to stick that bulky cover in the trunk, which was already pretty full with luggage. It's a bit of a catch-22 for long trips. I think I would leave it at home on the next road trip.
