Default Bought used. Clean title but found problems.

Just had to vent. I purchased my 03 bb 3 years ago. The carfax was good and it was a clean title purchase. I took it to the Honda dealership when I bought it for a full check and they said everything was good so I didn't worry about the 30 day return period from the dealer I bought it from. I did notice a hairline crack in the paint on my rear quarter panel and planned on getting that fixed. Fast forward to 2 years later, and I get pulled over from a cop. He checks my License and says ok you're good to go. He said there was a warrant out on the license plate. Also the paint on the rear qt panel is now absurdly cracked and chipped on both sides. It got worse over the years and made me wonder how the heck? I had a full body paint job ready to go but before that I got coils, rims and 4 corners rolled out. Planned to take hpde before the paint though! I got my alignment and corner balance. All is good accept for the right rear. The mech says have u been in an accident? I can't dial in the camber correctly on this side. I did notice my right rear wheel sticking out further than my left. Thinking an alignment would fix it. Now I am stuck with a car that drives good but unsure of its history.

The bad
2 rear quarters have cracked chipping paint
Right wheel sticks out about half an inch at least
Plates have a warrant on them (changed my plates)

If u were in this predicament what would u do? Can I take this to the dealer after 3 years and take action? Seems highly unlikely.
I don't feel super comfortable tracking this car, should I sell it for cheap and take the loss for another one?
Go with the insurance route and salvage fix it?

I would guess that the car fishtailed and slammed into a curb in the rear. If the rear is that far out of wack I would expect abnormal tire wear and the car not tracking correctly. I think that your plates wouldn't have anything to do with the car's past. You say the car is driving fine so what is the real problem here except for your nagging curiosity about it's past? A body shop should be able to give you a clearer answer to the damage. Relax and enjoy it, you have owned it for three years already if it was a major issue you would have probably experienced it by now.

Carfax doesnt always show everything thats happened to the car. My dad had a reported an accident on one of his old cars and when the time to sell it came around the carfax showed that it was clean. Cant always depend on it.

Agree with previous comments. More than likely a minor issue on that rear. It doesn't seem you have had many issues (if any at all) other than that over the last three years. Get that area looked over pretty good for final confirmation and then save up for a repaint.

Good luck.

If the paint is cracking then the bondo or whatever is underneath it is starting to degrade or separate. Find somebody with a paint meter and see what kind of readings you get in those areas vs. other parts of the car.

The likelihood of oem paint on factory metal cracking is very slim. Unless the car is an antique or been sitting in florida sun for years.

If you paid for the report they have some coverage, never got to use it though.

Ok sounds like the bondo is starting to degrade. I've never heard of a paint meter. I guess it's time to explore that. I am going to take my car in to find out if anything is bent in the rear. Hopefully it is only a bent control arm.

I can run a auto check for you. Sometimes it reports differently than car fax.
