Hey guys! I'm going to be buying a new set of front/rear brake pads on MY04. I use my car as a daily driver and I think the OEM brakes work great. You guys know any websites that sells them cheap. Dealer cost $55-$60, which ain't bad, but if it could be bought cheaper then even better.

Also, what steps should I take to ensure that I get no squeaks with the new OEM brake pads? If it's one thing that I can't stand it's squeaky brakes. So far I'm planning on just installing the new pads, but is there anything else I would need? What are these shims I keep seeing? I shouldn't have to turn my rotors do I?

You want to apply Sil-Glyde or an equivalent anti-squeal compound between the backing plate and the shim behind each of the pads. This stuff prevents your breaks from squealing.

I haven't replaced my brakes on my S2K yet, so I don't know if it is any different than other pads I've purchased but some pads come with anti-squeal compound pre-applied, and you only have to peel off the backing paper and apply the shim. If you don't put something like Sil-Glyde or if you don't install a backing plate, expect squealing brakes.

 

I use OEM pads and the anti squeal packet they sell at the cashier register at advance auto

 

I always turn my rotors when I get new pads. That's just me though...

 

After i read this post today. I went out and brough some pads from advance auto parts. I got the cheapest pads they carry.

Maybe I'm wierd but I'm not looking at buyiing the cheapest pads I can find. I replaced my almost new (500 miles) pads with ceramic pads that "dust" much less - I'm verry happy with them.

 

OEM pads.... the best, safest pads you can get for the street. Put a little antisqueal, or antiseze on the back

 

I agree that stock pads are nice. They are just a little dusty, but seriously work well for street applications.

 

What range do pads on the S2k typically wear before needing replacement?
