The Honda oil sold at my dealership on Long Island in NY (where all the games of the World Series will be held ) is bottled by Mobil but they do no sell a synthetic so it is certainly not Mobile 1.

Wow! They are playing the World Series on Long Island? That's one heck of a subway ride from the Bronx!

No argument from me, but most of these contracts are rebid regularly and whoever provides oil to spec at the lowest price is usually the vendor for that cycle.. sometimes Kendall, sometimes Mobil, often Shell elsewhere in the world.

Wonder if Honda sells the special "break-in oil" for those of us who need to top up our oil levels during the break-in period?

Can I offer a small bit of advice here which you motorheads seemed to overlook. Might I suggest that you pull the dipstick from time to time. Waiting for the oil light to come on is not the recommended proceedure for determining if you have enough oil in the engine. "I think I need oil 'cause the engine seized" is a little late IMHO.

I think that bit of advice is a bit more relevent than what brand to use. If it has an SAE 10W30 label then use it. It's surely better than the alternative. You can buy a quart at any gas station, shell, texaco, mobil, exxon, whatever. It's all good when the other choice is not having any oil at all.

Check your oil once a week minimum as seizing your engine due to lack of oil will result in excessive laughter and mass ridicule.

At 1000 miles I noticed my oil drop to 3/4 full. I visited the dealer to see what they suggested to top off the break in oil. They didn't add any oil, instead they notched the dipstick and asked me to return in another 1000 miles. The level stayed constant for nearly 3000 more miles until the past weekend. After 400 miles on the highway the level dropped below the low mark.I added SAE 10w30 (Pen30 non-synth). I noticed a small amount of oil on top of the oil filter (still tight), a little more beneath it on the frame and more above the filter on parts projecting from the block at the front right corner. Just a very small amount but I've never seen any before.
Any thoughts, I'm seeing a different Honda dealer this week for service.(The A/C quit on this trip too)

svann, that sure sounds like the porous block problem that Aaron had on one his cars. I think he posted the pictures as they replaced the entire shortblock.
