Default budget mods

new user in belgium ( actually american expat ) just bought a year 2000 s2k with 34k kms
all bog standard so far
what relatively easy to fit and reasonably priced mods to increase braking+ bite and a little more power would be recommended?
studied some of the forums but here are arrows pointing in all directions so a little confused
for info the av temp here rarely go above 80f 30c so 'bogging ' shouldn't be an issue
was a little put off by the posting on the valve collets/ retainer problem, is this a frequent issue?
real thin oil is an issue here the thinnest you are likely to get is 5w 40 full synthetic
is this thin enough?
to stop the rear window scratching I saw a post on putting in some kind of softmatting in the convertable hood well is a kind of felt the right stuff?
look forward your response
cheers

Paul

For braking - the easiest and most effective thing to do is to get a different pad compound. There are several pads that offer aggressive stopping, high temperature tolerance, and are still effective at street temps. I like Carbotech Panther Plus pads, s2ki sells some different ones others like.

For power - not much you can do cheaply. Your best bet might be an intake, such as the AEM CAI or the K&N FIPK. You'll likely not notice the small hp gains, but the sound makes the car much more enjoyable to drive.

I don't think you need to worry about the valve retainers.

Any soft material in the roof well will help protect the window from scratches. Many owners have also used a roll of soft stuff placed in the exterior fold of the window while it's down - the plastic rubbing on itself can cause scratches as well.

Cheep to free mods.

Remove all the baffling out of your intake box. free
Remove your exhaust resonator. $20 bucks
Remove your spare tire + jack. $5 for bottle of tire fixer

Anything beyond that... just save and buy the good stuff.

What's the purpose of the baffling? Noise reduction?

mODDING a S is very expensive. I've owned Civics and Preludes and the parts are much more cheaper than our S's

Best cheap mod = JDM convex mirror to eliminate blind spot (Muz has them)
Second best = countesunk shift knob (Muz or Rick's)

Enjoy your ride.

gears, convex mirrors, larger review mirror, countersunk knob
should be easy to drive cuase visiblity , and then faster 0-60 and 1/4 from gears.
