Bug in Tail Light
Hey Everyone,
I just purchased a 2005 Silverstone Black/Red S and I noticed there was a large dead bug in the drivers side rear tail light compartment. The dealership told me that the unit was sealed and the bug cannot be removed..this is unacceptable to me. Is there anyone that knows if the tail light compartment can be opened without breaking it?
Thanks
Drake
It is not sealed. Just disconnect the connectors, remove the 4 nuts and it comes out. there are holes in the back of it to get the bug out. Make sure the gasket is still good before you reinstall it. (this is the gasket between the light assy and the car. Otherwise you will get water in the light assy. Gaskets can be purchased separately.
I'm not sure whether the whole housing is one compartment or not. Wish I had my S with me to look, today. Remember that the AP2 has LED style tails. Still there should be a conventional bulb for at least part of it. My suggestion, remove a bulb, tape up a piece soft tubing to a shop vac and vacuum that little bastard out of there. Maybe I am full of it (probably) but the dealer should be able to be this creative at least.

I'm pretty sure dead bugs are covered under warranty - if you just bought it, do you have any return policies for autos in your state? This a new one to check for when buying a car I guess... dents, rust, and bugs.
OK. So I went back to the dealership this morning and told them I would not be leaving until that dead bug was gone(it's a big spider by the way). They told that there's no way to get it out and that the spider would desintegrate over time..cmon now..this is ridiculous. Keep in mind here in Canada this car is over 50k. I argued with the service manager for awhile and then they finally agreed to order a new tail light asembly and cover it.(after I refused to leave). They were convinced that there was no way to get to it without compromising the seal. I believe that bugs in the lights should be covered under warranty to begin..stupid that you have to fight for this
D.

I would take out the light and shake that little guy through a bulb socket hole.
