Glazed the clutch on my Celica bad once. Was on a Huge grade in traffic, Car behind me was on my ass so i had to keep the wheels with pressure and not brake it or i would've hit him(Stupid people).

For the next couple of hours, was slipping constantly but it wore off.
Didn't the Celica have a hand brake?

thats exacly what i said but less words.. Feathering is bad, thats why I said if he feathered it it would slip like that...
What you said is NOT what I said but with less words. 00CivicSI is correct, what you said didn't make much sense and when I read it, it seemed like you were telling him to feather the clutch. That is terrible advice when trying to launch the car.

Read your first post again to yourself, in front of a mirror if need be. Then come back and tell me that you said exactly what I said, but with less words.

you definantly need to get off the clutch right away when launching. if you feather it you're gonna burn it up, and quick!

Yea i read it the first time when you questioned it, it would look better if there was a comma in the middle of it but other then that its fine..

Let me break it down for you guys that cant read my bad writing..

Nope..
If you did drop it...
And you didn't feather it..
Then the clutch is going out..

The point to the part that said "you didn't feather it" was to mean if you did feather it then your slipping the clutch yourself..

It may not be the best writing but thats why im not an english major...
Being in the auto industry I dont have to do much of that.

So what then is the trick to launching the s without burning the clutch or breaking the diff?

Rev to 6k and let it out as fast as possible?

What does side stepping the clutch mean?

Sidestepping is just moving your foot off to the side of the clutch pedal rather than moving it backward toward your body. The idea is that the pedal will release faster by moving it off to the side.

If you're like me and have big feet, this doesn't work very well/at all. Or maybe I just need more practice.

If you feather it you will burn out the clutch. If you drop it you will break the diff. Either way get out your checkbook. If you want a drag racer get a different car.

But if you completely drop it, and it gets wheel spin, won't there be even less of a load on the diff? thus making it the ideal way to launch?

i dont want a drag car really, corners are more fun. but id like to see what i can do on the strip when my friends go down there.

Controlled wheel spin will produce the best acceleration times and the least wear and tear on the entire drive train. Its hell on a nice set of RE01Rs though.
