Default Buy Gasoline Tonite

Hurricane Rita is threatening an east-west path across the Gulf towards the Texas refineries (about 26% of national capacity). Remember what happened with Katrina?

Today (Monday), the gasoline futures price surged nearly 26 cents on this possibility. There is still about 12-18 hours remaining before the wholesale price surge starts getting passed on at the street level.

Thanks for the heads-up, I needed to fill up this afternoon anyway. Speaking of gas, is it just me, or does everybody get minimum mpg? I'm getting about 21 mpg on my 05 that I picked up last week.

Normally it gets better as the car breaks in, and you should be able to get 28mpg easily on the highway at reasonable speeds. But oddly, I have already gotten 27-29mpg on my first several tanks of gas. Just crossed 1000 miles today. I have been really pleased with the gas mileage, in fact the S2K is my daily driver for the time being. I can save $70-100 a month at this rate, compared to my Outback XT.

It goes without saying you have been taking it real easy on the engine while breaking in for the first 1000 miles, right?? I am sure that's been a contributor to my nice mpg, along with a long commute.

I just got 17 mpg average on a full tank!!!

You're not the only one!!!

I'll believe the price change when I see it. I don't feel the need to race to the pump at this point. There are too many variables...plus I'm going to fill up no matter what the price is anyway.

I have been getting about 30MPG and I have 1200 miles. On one tank I hit VTEC 3-4 times and still got about 26MPG.

I have been pleasantly surprised by the gas mileage.

Dude maybe you should trade her in on a Civic or something ... If I babied her like that, I would have bought a miata or something ... VTEC is THE best part about the S2K

getting 23-24 in dailly use....26-28 on trips. vetc a couple of times a day at most.
odometer reads 19000 miles and i did the normal 600 mile break in...and never any oil use, none, nada. i change it myself, it is soooo easy and cost effective, with 5.00 on average for a real honda filter at my dealer with their coupon (3 for 15.75) and costco chevron oil less than 1.00 per qt and free disposal at my local grand auto.

I think its interesting that gas prices will go up so much on the POSSIBILITY of a hurricane hitting, and we'll probably feel the difference at the pump TOMORROW on the same tanker of gas from 2 or 3 days ago ... yet when gas prices go DOWN, you don't usually feel it at the pump for a week or so. Even now, the Pipeline down the east coast is running at pretty much 100% capacity again and the prices have not gone back down to pre-Katrina levels yet. Its a conspiracy I tell you!
