Buying Certified, but previously a lease
I'm in the market to finally buy an S2000.
I've been running some carfaxes and a lot of these Honda Certified cars are showing that they were registered as a lease, or fleet vehicle in their history, in addition to being bought from an auction.
Since a Certified Honda is "supposed" to go through some rigorous inspection, should I be worried about it being leased, registered as fleet, or bought from an auction?
Would you buy a previously leased, certified S2000?

I've bought previously leased cars and had good luck with them. I would do it again.
Don't count on the certified "inspection". Often that doesn't mean jack.
Honda's Certified program doesn't add that much to the warranty. Personally I wouldn't pay more than a few hundred more for a certified vs non-certified Honda.

lol at your signature.
Most of the CPO s2k’s I looked at were previous leases purchased at auction.
I don’t see anything wrong with that since that’s the way the auto business works
The CPO s2k I ended up buying was not a lease.
But it wouldn’t have stopped me from buying it.
You just have to remember that being a CPO does add to the price of the car.
If you are looking at an ‘06 or ‘07 it will be out of warranty or close to it..
So you have to decide if you want to pay a little more or buy a car with no warranty.
Also you can also haggle on the certified warranty.
Usually it’s 1 year full and 3 years powertrain.
I got it bumped up to a 3 year full Honda warranty (not just powertrain) on my ‘05.

Thank you for the input. Currently, some of the S2000s I've been looking at have just about expired factory warranty mileage, but it does include 1 year 12k miles + 7 years/100k miles powertrain warranty, which does give a little peace of mind.
I'm the second owner of my car. It was previously a lease and then was bounced around in a few auctions before I bought it CPO with 27k miles from a Honda dealer. 1 year B2B and 4 years remaining on powertrain warranty. They even gave me a new diff for free because it was making noise on the test drive.
Have had the car since June and it has been great. No trouble at all thus far. I'd be more wary of a car with more than one previous owner than one that was leased/auctioned.

I purchased a Certified Honda 08 S2k w/188 miles on the clock. The dealer never moved the car in 08 so in Dec 08 it was sold to the Used Car Dept of the same Honda Dealer. I was able to get the CPO extension warranty of 4yrs/48k miles bumper t bumper and a Honda Care Ext warranty 7yrs/100k miles(which seem to cover nothing when you read the contract) thrown into the deal for a total price of $27,600 w TTL. I love the car to death the thing is like a Go-Kart. I would do the purchase if you can verify that there is no damage such as accidents, paint jobs and no severe wear and tear. I would be concern on the mileage if its above 13k per year.

Honda's CPO 100K powertrain warranty saved my ass when the transmission failed on my Accord V6. Replaced for free at 65,000 miles. More than paid for itself there. For cars that tend to be very reliable, I wouldn't care much about it, but for cars with histories of issues (like V6 Hondas/Acuras) or for cars that may have been abused (S2000), I'd say its not a bad idea.
