Buying a high mileage S2000
Hello everyone! I dream to own an s2000 and have recently found one that's in my budget. It's a high mileage example, but seems well taken care of. I appreciate any help y'all can provide since the vehicle is 5 hours away from me!
It's a very clean bone stock 2001 BB S2000 with 296000 miles on it (2 owner and garaged for its whole life). Check engine light is on for the cat and burns 1 qt every 1000 ish mile. I know the oil consumption is within reason, but is there anything I should look out for on a example with this high of mileage? How much should I expect to pay? I'm familiar with the price range for 100-170k mile examples, but I don't know about one that's at 300k miles.

There is a sticky thread for things new owners should do and check. I'd become familiar with that, both for what you should do if this deal works out, but also could be very useful learning things to check.
There are also a few ppi threads around. While they aren't geared toward high mileage, they'll still be very useful.

Its a high mileage car, so a ton of things are going to need to be addressed. The engine is probably healthy, but nothing lasts forever. And suspension parts/bushings/etc will be worn out.
If the cost of entry is low, you can just fix the things it needs as you progress. Don't shy away so easily.
Go drive it if you're interested.
It doesn't look bad if om honest.
I bought mine with 175k miles on it, and I'm now on 191k, and if I'm honest, the lower cost of the car due to its mileage made it a steal, yes there were some issues that cropped up over time, and im still getting new ones every now and again, but they're all pretty simple fixes, I'm not a very competent mechanic but I'm able to sort them all out myself. but its worth it, S2ks are relatively easy to maintain, and you can get some good quality parts for a decent price.
if I were you I'd bin those seat covers and give the motor a bit of TLC (valve tolerances, full service incl spark plugs and maybe some new coolant), a lick of paint on the valve cover and you've got yourself a bargain of an s2000
