Buying Options
Just out of curiosity, do most people around here nowaday buy a heavily used car and rebuild it or buy a lightly used one and pay a premium? I see a lot of S2k’s for $7-11k with a ton of miles but some work and $10k for a stroker(unless it’s more now) and I think some of them might be good options.
I use to own an Ap2 but thought I could defy
physics and physics won so I had to part ways. I ended up buying a large suv since I was refinishing a house but I want a fun toy again.
Any thoughts? I haven’t kept up with s2k’s for the past 7 years so my knowledge is a little questionable at this point.

This is definitely a search you have to be patient with. You can find great deals out there but spring is not the best time to expect that kind of a situation. Honestly, the only ones I have ever seen within 200 miles of me at the price you mention are salvage title. Even a clean title 10k-13k car is going to require a refresh to some degree.

No, over the past few months there have been multiple ones ranging from 7.5k-11 within 200 miles of Auburn al. Some have issues and cosmetic defects but nothing that couldn’t easily be fixed with a few hours work. Some have engines that are probably on their last legs but I wouldn’t expect a 8k s2000 to be that great but a good option for a used or stroker engine.

I may be in the minority, but my approach has been to find a good strong car with no problems, rather than searching for a "deal," even it it costs more up front. I drive my car on the street, not on the track. If I was tracking I might look for a higher mileage car.
