Default Buying an s2k Privately

Hi guys,
I really want an sk2 and have found a lovely 1999 reg one in the colour I want with 54k on the clock and he wants 5 grand for it, full service history etc.
not overly pleased it has 30mm lowering springs fitted but hey.
My question is I have never spent this amount (more than 2.5k) on a car before! and have always been told , if you go over that price go to a garage so you get a warranty etc. so my question , would you spend £5000 (roughly $7500) on a car private sale. ie. to a random person.
I would go to a garage but that becomes out of my price range and they dont have the colour I want....

Where do you think dealers get their cars? It sounds like a good deal if its in good shape.

Yeah I'd have to pass on that as well, Double insurance rates on an already costly car to insure would be bad.

found one at a garage, 2002 plate with 80k miles, there asking for £5995 so about $9000 , probably get it for $8000 by haggling thoe!
is this mileage to high? will there be problems starting to happen?

Hey fellow Americans, this guy is from the UK so his prices are in pounds sterling. OP you may wanna try the UK regional section and ask them, as this section is dominated by us yanks. Plus it seems like no one is fully reading your post haha.
