Default Buying A Theft Salvage

I'm new to the forum and think this is the right place for this question. I am going to be buying my s2k pretty soon, so I've been looking at every s2000 on the web. I've seen a lot of salvaged s2000s and a bunch that were theft recoveries.

Can these theft recovery salvages ever be a good buy, assumming you were willing to take the future hit of selling a salvaged vehicle? I've had friends' cars stolen and salvaged with zero damage done, so I know not all of these cars are bad.

Anyone have any personal experience with these cars or any input otherwise? It would be much appreciated by a noobie.

Well, you won't really be the one taking the hit if you buy it like that (the seller will be). As long as it's in good running/cosmetic shape, why not? If you can live with knowing it's a salvage title and lower resale, have at it

Thanks for your post and that's true that I won't be taking most of the hit. But do you know if there is anything in particular that might be wrong with theft cars. I mean they couldn't have been run any harder than you guys run your cars everyday.

Anyone have any experience with these type of cars?

Well they could have sat spinning the tires bouncing off the rev limiter having fun or downshifted from 5th to 2nd just for fun if it was a joyride car. I would not buy unless you could inspect it personally and make sure it runs and drivers with no issues. Other than that it's not a bad deal.

do these have to be bought in cash?

and i would check with your insurance to see how they will insure the car.

otherwise if it looks good i would go for it.

A good place to look would be POLICE AUCTIONS or an insurance auction which buys out salvaged title cars. Also salvage cars have crappy resale so dont expect to sell it for much, if your serious about buying salvage you better consider keeping this car till it dies. Also about the salvage title situation on my dads eg civic hatch which we bought for 1k SALVAGE can only be insured for liability insurance which is only HALF coverage not FULL, im not sure how other insurance companies work but thats how ours does btw my insurance is ALLSTATE so check with your local insurance good luck with that decision.

COPART or IAAI (2 of the largest salvagte operations in the country) are both good places to start your search although you'll probably need an account to look online.

I have a COPART account and there seems to be about 20 S2000 on there every week. Some of these are light hits and some are rolled it down the highway thirty time before it got ran over by a semi type hit.
