buying through a credit union
Sean, If you gave 10k on hand, I believe any CU will take your business. BTW this is the time to get a great deal on cars (S2k too) shop around and get a extended warranty specially if your S2k is going to be out of warranty. my 2 cents GL !!
TJ
Get a quote from Penfed then take to your local CU see if they match it !!!

Alot will depend on what state you're in too and if you buy out of state or in-state. I bought out of state with my CU and I didn't have to pay sales tax on it. Just registration and property tax.
Other than that it's pretty standard.

A wealth of information on this site.

And to find out how much the state is going to charge you, use the California Vehicle Registration Fee Calculator. This will tell you exactly how much more you will need to pay for your car.

On my life I didn't pay sales tax. I've got the statement for my first car payment right here looking at it...
My loan officer told me that if I had bought the car in-state it would have been different, but since it was out of state, she just processed it for the agreed upon sale price of the seller, and it was a done deal.

Thanks for the calculator, DaPhatty.
Dammitjim, I was looking at an 06 with 28,000 miles. Also, there was another 06 with 43,000 miles.
I have decided to find something a little cheaper just to keep my payment lower, unless i stumble on a great deal. I always said i'd pay for the right car. whether it's from 2000 or 2008.
