Walking, from my perspective, factory Honda's the top when it comes to reliability, every other solution is less so. If you're upgrading parts then sure, you have to use a shop but, for a stock replacement I'd get a factory made motor. The problem with using a shop is, you have to have faith. Faith that they do a good job, that the machine shop knows what it's doing, that they pay attention to assembly. I don't have much faith in other's work. That's why the only work I farm out is alignments and roll cages. Everything else I do here.
I re-bearing and re-ringed the B18C5 (Type-R motor) in my civic a year ago. It's been reliable as a brick and doesn't use a drop of oil. In the back of my mind though, I worry that I forgot something and it's going to pop any day.
I agree with you Dreamin, it's the american curse, not checking the oil.

I'm selling the shell for 10k. i have been asking around forever and no biters until now. everyone wants it but no $. friend posted it on Honda tech..... OMG! some of the most outrageous and stupid emails i have ever gotten. so anyway i guess i will see what happens. oh and as far as the 120 for long periods of time. i work and live right off the e-way. 120 there and back for 15 min is not a uncommon thing. i love my valentine 1. i still have not decided what im going to do.

The new EVO 9 MR has been calling my name for only 33k . I just wish the interior wasn't so boring

Depends on what you are feeling! If you want just a daily driver with ROOM and some balls, get either the Subie or Evo. But if you don't care about space, stick with the S2K!!!
Just an FYI, my previous baby was an 03' WRX and I loved it! But, nonetheless, I am head over heels for my new S2000. Totally different cars and I love them both. There will be another Subie in my future!

Everybody seems to be falling in love with the EVO and STi. I don't get that
I've driven a STi who finishes the quarter mile in high 11 sec or low 12's. It's fast of the line but driving it on the roads and track is super boring compared to the S2K. The gas pedal doesn't have the same sensitivity because of the turbo. The S2K is pretty darn close to being a race car straight of the manufactory line and that's what I like about it.
Driving an EVO doesn't give me that smile and sure doesn't make me take the long way home. It's too open inside and I really don't like driving with 3 other passengers. Also 4WD is for people who are lazy
S2000 is different, turns heads and is one of the most exciting cars I have ever driven and you can actually feel the passion Honda has put into this car.
What makes a STi or EVO fun where I live are the gravel roads but that does not make me want one.
My $0.05
