It still work with temperature set at high and it will take longer to defrost without a/c, because a/c does remove moisture from the air when on.

Just turn on the fan and direct the air flow to winshield position, the right most position, and adjust the temperature to red area, it will defrost your windshield, but it will take longer than with a/c on.

Defrost won't work nearly as well without the A/C.

To be sure that you can live without A/C, try to re-program the automatic A/C so that you can turn it off in defrost mode. If you are satisfy with defrost performance without A/C and you still like to remove A/C to reduce weight, then it is up to you.

To de-activate automatic A/C:

1) Turn the ignition switch "on", but don't start the car.
2) Turn the fan off.
3) Turn the temperature knob counter-clockwise all the way to the left (blue area).
4) Turn the vent knob to all the way to the left (panel position).
5) Turn the ignition switch "off."
6) Hold down both air re-circulation button and A/C button while turning the ignition switch "on", the orange air re-circulation indicator will start flashing after few seconds.
7) Continue holding both buttons until the orange air re-circulation indicator stops flashing, then let go both buttons.
