Can I sue Honda for this?
I brought my car in for an oil change a few months ago and they overflowed my motor with oil...apparently, the equipment broke and instead of pumping 5 quarts into my motor...my motor actually had about 15 quarts of oil in there; my motor started with nothing but white smoke coming out of my exhaust and my engine was shaking like a cold turkey...and capitol honda service department refused to give me any kind of warranty...they just said that if anything happens to my car and they can prove that it was due to the oil overflow...they will fix it...but im not satisfied....can i get an extended warranty or anything like that? i was really upset and all they gave me was a free oil change....can anyone help with advice?
Maybe someone on this board can tell you what kind of damage such an occurrence can inflict on the S. Hopefully it is just a clean up job and it would be the end of the saga. If you want peace of mind, you could have a check up from a competent independent to make sure that ,in the future, you don't own any problems that are related to this incidence (engine bay cleaning, catalytic converter??, ...) and send the bill to the shop. Very likely, it won't be paid. Unfortunately, the next step would be the small claim court. I am not one to sue for the slightest of causes but I should not be the one to hold the bag because of someone else's mistake. As you probably have figured out, something as simple as an oil change turned into a monster that will cost you money and time but I don't see any other way.
Because you gave the service department a chance to bring the car back to the condition when you brought it in and received no satisfactory response, I would think that you would get a favorable view from the court. And again, it will cost you time and money, but at least I would feel that I have done all I possibly could.
Sorry for what happened to you. Good luck.

The only thing that overfilling oil should be able to do is blow out some engine seals. If this hasn't happened 1000 miles after the incident, you won't ever see a problem stemming from that incident.
Yeesh. Americans and their urge to sue...

The extra oil in the engine would of caused excessive pressure in the crankcase. This would of blown out the crank seal or cam seal. In either case there would of been a huge oil leak.
By the way, how did they know that you had 15 quarts in your car? Did they measure it while draining the oil? I am suprised that a dealer would admit to that.
thanks for the input guys....i was actually talking about sueing the dealership....i dont really want to sue....but i just dont know what to do....the dealership seemed like there were bullying my in a sense that they wouldnt give me any type of protection....i mean, maybe its just psychologically that i feel insafe in my car...but the thing is that they messed up my car....and for me to witness the whole motor shaking and smoke coming out of my car.....it just really frustrates me and the service department isnt really satisfying me with what they offered me (a free oil change)...
I mean....shouldnt i at least be offered an extended warranty? i would have been happy with just that....i mean at least that gives me more of a reassurance that if anything happens to my car....im covered....
