Plus isn't the milage and ODO in lock step with the ECU???

I was told messing with the ODO was basically impossible like Wisconsin S2k said

I was wanting to roll mine back so to speak because I have a 0 mile motor re-build I just dropped in. But alas......

You can swap clusters, or use a gadget to do it.. www.speedoshop.com

What about the guy who hooked up his yellow jacket incorrectly after a gear swap and his odometer was adding miles at an exponential rate? Couldn't it also work in a reverse method?

no, the speedo will not go in reverse, though yes you could "lessen" the mileage you're actually putting on. however, that makes for an extremely inaccurate speedo.

also, no there is no redundancy for the ODO. it's just in the instrument cluster. no information on the ODO is passed to the ECU. you either need the tool (which is a crap shoot, by the way) or swap the cluster for a cluster with less miles. however, I do believe the VIN is on the cluster, so someone may be able to find that out.

Thanks for the info.

I did run a carfax and it checks out. Not really anything on it. Firts DMV update at 1 year should 3,400 miles then the last one should 17k. It didnt have any in between.

I had a 99 miata with digital odometer all you had to do was pull your dash fuse and it would stop clocking miles. My friends Ford F150 was the same.

I figured it would be a little harder on a S2000.

The guy seems extremly honest and said he drove it pretty hard when he did drive it, which wasnt often so i feel confident now.

Cant wait to get it. Its got a comptech supercharger on it with intercooler. Should be a fun 700 mile drive home saturady.

Now i just need to find some nice rims.

Carfax and looking for additional wear and tear on pedals, driver seats, stering wheel.
There is something that can be unplugged and it also kills the vtec engagement.. so it would be like driving a miata. It would also set the check engine light and need to be reset (by battery disconnect)

I picked up my 00 back in december with 7,900 miles. There was also another 00 in the area with 4,700 miles. Low mileage is not uncommon in sports cars, as many use them as weekend toys. I wouldn't worry about it.

you could always get a yellow box to cheat the odo, speedo would be off but it would do the trick.
