Can someone explain this tire statement?
Read this first:
http://s2ki.s2000online.com/faqs/faq_tires.php
I e-mailed the author and he said (paraphrased for clarity):
"You could use any tire on the vehicle you wanted, but so far the only tire I have heard of that holds up to the S2000 is the SO-2 in a W speed rating. anything else that people have tried wear out extremely fast. I have heard from
other people [at the] the S2K site that...other tires have literally started throwing pieces of rubber off the tires for whatever reason..." (he did make one correction in the article... he meant to say Yokohama A520 in a W speed rating rather than A032R)
Why would any other tire besides the two he mentions in the article wear out faster, and worse yet, start throwing rubber everywhere? Who has had this happen?? I don't drive my car hard to the point of smoking the tires (egads!) and I don't track the car, so in my case, what's the harm in getting any brand of tire that fits? Besides driving the car hard, does the setup of the S2000 lend itself to quick tire wear for some reason?

This is nonsense, plain and simple (no flame intended to the quoted author). Purchase the tires you want, but do your research. The S02's are really well suited to the S2000, but not nearly the only good choice. The soon to be released S03 will be my next rolling stock, no questions asked, even if the dry traction is not exactly on par with the S02, it'll give better all around performance and longer life.

Brett,
If you do not drag race your S2000 or push the car to the limits...say at a road course...you won't have any problems with other name brand tires.
The S02's are the best dry weather street tires for our 16x7.5 and 16x6.5 wheels.
I have heard that the A032R's are great for our wheels for racing events.
