^^ SUPER NICE GUY! ^^

One of the things I like about drifting is the people who are involved. Alex and the RSR crew are some of the nicest, down-to-earth, people you'll ever meet. All of the guys involved in drifting at the professional level are extremely good natured. I suppose you have to be able to get along if you're going to be banging into each others cars. Club racers and autocrossers are, for the most part, good people too, but no other sport attracts the kind of out-going nice-in-the-extreme kind of competitors that we see in pro drifting today.

It's easy to fluff it off without ever realizing what it's all about. Everyone knows that sliding around corners looks fast, but is actually slower than molasses, because it scrubs off speed. One has to understand that it is about style and grace rather than speed, or it just looks stupid. It's not racing, it's more like competative skate boarding or freestyle figure skating. It's about having a good time rather than turning good times, and it's a hell of a lot of fun.

Good responses man.

When I got a chance to go out to a Formula D event, I had a great time. And all the drivers at the professional level were very personable.

Drifting isn't a fad.... it's been around for a while...

It only bothers me when those people pull off a little fishtail driving in circles or something and call it "drifting".

Having said that, I would never fully drift my S2... if something does happen to break I'm hooped...

Cutting donuts is not drifting.

The S2000 is not a good platform to drift, the wheelbase is too short and the perfect weight balance makes it hard to keep sideways.

sYnth, when you tune a car for pro drifting the stock handling is irrelevant. The RSR S2000 has totally different spring biases, roll bar rates, and shock rates, along with a re-engineered rear suspension that eliminates the bump steer that is made worse due to the extreme lowering. The car is rock hard and very easy to slide around. FI alone makes an S2000 much easier to drift, but the suspension setup is the key. Even so, I've never seen Alex complete an event without one or two spins. Sure wouldn't be my first choice for a competitive drift car, but Alex has proven that the car can be drifted successfully.

, so yea, this stuff has been around longer than the internal combustion engine.
Chariots also drift and power-slide.
The Rs-r car also weighs about 2200 lbs. and It has a modified rack and pinion from an RX-7...

Thanks, Red MX5 for hitting great points.
The reason I asked is because I too believe knowing how to "drift" makes me a lot better driver by being able to handle the "unexpected".
To me in order to really drive RWD cars well, I should get comfortable with drifting. Not like I will purposely drift in every corner, but in case I misjudged the speed and back swings out, I want to catch it and move on unscratched. So far I panic more than trying to stay cool when the back swings out.
But yea. Empty parking lot on a wet day should be a good starting point.
