Default Can't trust ANYONE!

I had a small accident 3 weeks after I purchased the car. "Was not used to the rear end antics of it" With the referrals from several people I took my car 4 hours away to Akron - a family friend of my roommate. I had crushed the front clip and pushed the passenger side headlight in a couple of inches. The headlight was scratched all over also. So I got the car back after $3000 worth of work (front clip, headlight, paint, labor). when I got it back, the driver side HID light was loose from inside and would bounce. I was not upset by this bc you could not tell that it was broke unless it was driven at night (at least they did not take my car out for a spin? I brought the car to the dealer for the first oil change and asked them to look at it also. when I went back to pick up the car, he asked me if it had been in a wreck. I told him yes, that it was fixed by a body shop in Akron. He told me that when the tech looked at it, there was tape still all over the car. that they had done a crappy job.

I am mechanically inclined and thought of trying to fix it myself. (make the clear turn signals also). I took the front clip and headlight off and low and behold - they had used the same passenger headlight and just buffed out the scratches. I looked at the invoice - $499 passenger headlight. They charged me for a damn headlight they DID NOT replace!!

I will definitely give them a call on Monday. I appreciate the opportunity to give off some steam. I could have understood if he would have charged me 5 hours of labor to buff it out but this......

This is pretty typical - if the insurance company paid for the repair, I suggest reporting it as a case of fraud. Also, who knows what else they skimped the repair on.

Yeah, I'd report them on www.cartalk.com. They keep a registry of jip joints.

Also, when you call, ask if their boat payment just happens to be $499!!!!!!!!!!

This is why "attention to detail" is so important to me. If mechanics tend to get a couple of little things wrong like not screwing down a oil cap it makes me wonder what major things they did wrong like forgetting to put the new oil back in.

When I find something "small" wrong after a mechanic has had my car I feel like I need to check every nut and bolt on the car.

Sounds like fraud to me. Definitely report them.

Good luck. Let us know what happens.

F@#$ me in the goat A$$!

I called Akron Classic Auto and spoke with the president. He swears that he personally watched the light replacement and would NOT budge from his word. He then wanted me to bring the car back up to Akron -so that he could look at it. (that is a 4 hour drive) What are my options now??

how do i inset a photo i will post it.

did you have your insurance company involved in the incident? if so, ask them.

the manager at the body shop is very inclinded to call your bluff - or attempt to - because you live four hours away and cannot drive it there immediately. even though the headlight housing is that much, a new one would have been nice to have. see if you can send them pictures that you have taken via email, or some other way - by taking it to a dealership or insurance company (if they were invovled) and have them call them up.

you must add pictures to your album first - under 'my s2000' at the top.

I emailed them the photos. Regrettably I did not go through my insurance agency.
