Default Car involved in a flood, help!

My '02 s2k was involved in a flash flood 3 months ago and is currently sitting in the shop with the transmission out. Everytime the shop calls me to tell me my car is ready, I find another problem. Insurance is paying for the repairs but it is over $16k in damage (no salvage title). I believe more problems will surface once I officially get my car back. I am torn between selling the car or keeping it since all the repairs have been done. My car has under 7000 miles on it. I need to make a decision soon but I need to know whether this will affect the sale of my car or whether I should just retain my car till another problem arises? Any advise is good advise. So thanks guys.

Thank goodness I have comprehensive insurance so my deductible was only $1k. But my whole car was rewired and it was flooded past the shift knob so all electrical parts were reinstalled, thus the cost. *ouch*

June 04, it was raining for 3 consecutive days and I live near a river. The river overflowed its banks and there was a flash flood. In the morning, the water was gone (cept the water in the trunk). Thats how my car went swimming.

First, sorry to hear about your problems. At least the insurance seems to be working for you.

Will the flooding effect the sale of the car? Absolutely!

Even with receipts for all the repairs and parts replacements, I'd be surprised if you'd get anywhere near what you could have gotten before the flood. Speaking for myself, if I were in the market for a used car of any kind, I'd be walking away from it the minute I found out it was flood damaged, regardless of the repairs.

I'm sorry to sound so negative on this but I don't think I'm unusual in that attitude.

Best of luck on this one & Drive Safe,
Steve R.

Just keep it. If it's been repaired properly, it will be fine. One of the guys that works for the company I do had his car involved in a flood where water was over a highway and he basically drove into it, not knowing it was flooded. This happened a couple of years ago and his car is still running just fine today after it got repaired. Yeah, it took a while to get back right at the time, but I don't think he's had any lasting issues from it. I've driven his car and it seems just fine.

I'd go back to your insurance and find out why they decided not to just total it out...$16K in repairs seems awfully high...what year is your car and what is KBB on it currently? I'd press insurance to total it out honestly...like these guys said if I found out a car I was looking at was Flood damaged I'd be outro...
