I live in New York City and when I see an S out in the street or even Older manual hondas, the owners usually put a boot on on of their wheels. I always thought that was a good idea but is it? Wouldnt it be easy to pick the lock off those things? Ill be getting my S soon (just in time for the winter stupid me but the time is right) and was thinking about putting an aftermarket alarm and buying a boot aswell since it would be out in the streets -_____- .

Factory alarms are useless, someone smashed the drivers side window of my 06 civic si and stolen everything and I didn't even find out until the next morning. I will have a viper alarm installed in my s2k and just hope no body mess with my car.

GS-R w/ liability only? its still a high theft car. I would leave the limits the same as the S, it will be very minimal $$ to d oit on the same policy. I have 100/300/50k coverages on my S2000 and my 91 Accord and hollow points in my 9

So sorry to hear this, I hope they find you're car and it was just for a joy ride :/

So I am really glad I read this thread b/c I had no idea that my parents had me on a just minimal liability plan as well...I'm going to switch the insurance under my name and add comprehensive. I'm thinking I will just go for the highest deductible to make it more affordable (ie. just protect the theft of the whole car). Any other suggestions guys, I'm not very experienced with insurance?

Don't automatically opt for the highest deductible IMO. It's somewhat of a gamble, but for me to get $500 deductible instead of $1000, it was only like $5 more a month, and that's on an 08 model.

Actually now that I think of it I think I will get a $500 deductible, it really isn't that much more. The difference between a $2,500 ded and $500 ded is almost exactly $6 a month lol.

Yeah, theoretically it could cost you more in the long run to have the $500 deductible if nothing ever happens, but if something DID happen and the repair costs $2500, well there goes all the savings.

Yeah, GS-R is a high theft car, but it isn't worth much. I don't think even the best examples are worth more than a few thousand.

This is the kind of thing that terrifies me and i always look outside my window every morning to make sure my S is OK. I have to park my S outside BUT I have it off street, outside my window and there is a huge spotlight from the building on the car. I thought that would call attention to it, but at the same time the area is so well lit anyone trying to take the car would be seen by someone. I also have the local police station a block away and that makes me feel better.

Gonna look into getting a boot. Have full coverage on my S because i have a loan out but even once that is paid off ill always have full coverage.

Boot won't protect you from a flatbed.

I used to laugh at the people that used a club. Saw a show on car theft once. They showed a chop shop that had been busted. As the camera panned the shop, you could see a pile of clubs tossed in the corner.
