If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Does the car's idle stay at 1750 even when you are showing 2 or 3 bars? If not, this is normal. The RPM should come down slowly as the temp rises. Who is your Insurance Provider?

this is just known as cold start idling...its normal, leave it alone. now if you were driving for about 3 hours already and its idles at 2000 with 3 bars indicating full operating temp, then you might need to adjust a few things...

Hey everyone, I'm new to the car community, and young, so I'm not really sure what to about this one. though like the description says, I'm actually having 3 problems.

On occasion, when first starting my car, the RPMs will not go below 1750 or 2. The first time this happened, I popped the hood and checked the throttle cable, and it was actually a little loose. I'm kinda stumped on this one...

When I first take off(when the RPM is at its usual 750 to 1k) I'm hearing a bit of squeaking coming from the rear driver side tire. from what I can tell, it doesn't look as if it is rubbing on anything, though I haven't really had the time, or equipment to take the tire off and check anything else. Any ideas as to what this could possibly be?

Also, my car has had the convertible top cut, in an attempt to break in. The insurance company will not cover this because of a stupid complication. They are saying that due to the fact that nothing was stolen from the car, and it is not certain that someone did cut my top, they can do nothing about it. the police basically say the same. I do a quick glance over my car, everytime I get in, or out of it. It happened one night while at a club. I came out, and there was a 3 inch cut on the driver side towards the rear of the top. any suggestions? also, can anyone recommend a good upholstery shop in San Antonio?

Like I said, I'm a noob when it comes to s2ks, or cars in general. I'm in the military, so I don't have the greatest amounts of time during the day, or a garage to do the work myself, so any good mechanic recommendations would also be highly appreciated. Thanks
Your in the military... get USAA insurance- i had almost the exact same issue (plastic window was sliced, if they wanted to get stupid it could have been a crack, and also nothing was stolen.) - I had a brand new soft top within a week. I know it might be a little late- and when i was a private (assuming your enlisted) i had never heard of USAA, but it really is a godsend. My insurance at 23 on a 01s2k (2 years ago), with my wifes car and horrible driving record- was 125 dollars a month full coverage with USAA compared to the 320 i was spending a month with progressive. Just my 2 cents.

insurance should cover vandalism, not just robbery.

it's not different than getting your car keyed - nothing is stolen, but still covered by insurance.

mine? 500. same as it was with progressive but almost paying 3x more. 500 out of pocket for a brand new oem soft top installed and no increase in monthly rates FTW.

500 deductable, and they are saying they can't prove that it wasn't just wear and tear, which is bs. but if I switch to USAA my rates will actually double. right now I am with my parents, and will be for another year or so, or until I can afford the doubled insurance. My insurance provider is All-state. I am an E-3, so I don't make the greatest amount of money...

insurance is an ass (see my sig) but you should insist that they fix it if you have comprehensive insurance
