I have an open filter intake (custom modified Weapon R) located atop the bay (see pic) and will be buying the J's style carbon fiber hood. I am fidgeting with creating a rain channel so the torrential downpours we get down here won't soak my filter. Has anyone come up with their own solution yet? We've discussed this before but I can't recall anything concrete. I figure most who no longer have the OEM lunchbox intake went long tubed (AEM, Injen, etc) and since the filter is low, don't worry about it.
I am sort of leaning towards attaching a 1-inch square picture hook (3m adhesive on the backside) to the underside of the hood, drilling a small hole in a rectangular piece of sheet metal (maybe 6x14") and when the possibility of rain exists, attaching this piece to the hook, letting gravity sort of bend it down towards the driver's side so when rain falls into the mesh opening of the hood, it collects on this piece of sheet metal and drips across the intake pipe or falls down into the pulley area. It's hard to determine the exact location of the mesh opening with the J's style hood because you always see them closed.
Does this make any sense at all? Practical? Thanks guys.
Hey Russ, I actually have the J's hood on my S...I had to cover the opening because when I washed it (probably if it got rained on too) it dripped right into the stock air box and right on the filter. I can take some pix of it just let me know what you want exactly....open pic of the vent/work done/etc. Thanks
