If you're bashing on CF mirrors because they offer "no performance benefit", then I guess you haven't driven an s2k with the mirrors on them. I consider them an extremely beneficial safety item simply based on the extra viewing ability that they offer.
I think it's funny that no one screams "rice" about a Muz mirror which has much the same function, but with these you don't hesitate to say so. I consider them a performance mod in that they allow much better visibility out of a car that has arguably substantial blind spots (obviously with the top up).
I didn't say they were rice and i didn't say they had no function, i just said they are ugly. It cheapens the look of the car bigtime. They look flimsy and out of place. It would be one thing if anyone ever actually painted them the matching color of their car, but no one does. For some reason people like having different color hoods, trunks, mirrors. It is a phase like altezza tail lights were and it will end eventually(not soon enough). Black is the only color car that doesn't look ridiculous with all the un-painted carbon fiber parts. It is funny the full-circle that has happened. First all the old civics came with black body moldings and mirrors, e.t.c. and everyone ran to have them painted the same color of their car to enhance the look. Now people go out of their way to make it look like those older civics with the black pieces everywhere. I just don't get it. Weight reduction made me laugh though.
Perhaps if some of the drivers on this board would learn how to properly adjust their mirrors, they wouldn't be saying that they are inadequate, I have no issues with blind spots.
I have to agree with 1fast99si, the craftsquare and other similarly styled mirrors are one of the more trendy and unattractive looking mods I've seen next to the altezza lights. They clash with the lines of the car, don't match the color of the car with the funky chrome base and cf mirror housing, they are just straight up ghetto looking imo. Like it was yanked off a sportbike or an F1 car and jerryrigged to fit the S. I hate to break it to ya, but the S is no F1 racer by any stretch of the imagination.
But hey, to each his own. It's your money to do as you please, just don't try to rationalize your purchase to us..
Fortunately (or unfortunately if you were trying to pay off your car as quickly as I),
you're name isn't on the checks, so the only opinion that matters is the one whose face
stares back at me while I'm shaving.
People who moan about carbon fiber hoods can also be the very same folks who put
25-lb wheels on their car or install 40-lbs of stereo gear. I don't stay up late at night thinking
too much about how such additions "clash" with the purpose, or "lines" of the car. In fact,
I think the CS mirrors make the car more aggressive, the stock mirrors are too damn bulky
and yes...weigh a lot. Hold one in your hand and you'll find out....then again, someone who
thinks 19-inch wheels, for example, look great, probably isn't going to lose any sleep over
a relatively heavy mirror. We all own the same canvas but choose different colors to create the painting.
These "why do people" posts get drummed up once or twice a month but always lose their interest after a day or two because in the end, the only thing that
matters is the owner's opinion, certainly not those of others who may go months, hell...even
a year, before seeing a car like mine (which apparently could be a good thing I suppose
for many) but the world would pretty much be a boring place if we were all dating the same
girl or driving the same car, eating the same slice of beef or living in the same house.
Take me to an S2000 meet where VARIETY is celebrated, not uniformity. Afterall, isn't
the car itself a statement of non-conformity in a cookie cutter world of "soft" sportscars?
Celebrate your individuality...painted or unpainted
Russ, if you seen my S you probably wouldn't give it another glance. I have no mods and plan to do none. I purchased it because I love the lines and it's minimalistic nature. I even laugh when I hear others in this forum complain of the plastice rear window. It is a sports car for crying out loud. To me that means great handling, good power and wind in your face. On the other hand I frequent the photo forum because I enjoy seeing what others have done to increase "their" enjoyment of "their" car. Some things I like and some I don't. Keep it up! At the end of the day you are the one hitting the lock button on your key fob and smiling as you take one last glance at it before tucking it in until tomorrow. It looks great!

Nothing wrong with wanting individuality. You paid for it, you do what you like (obviously).
Taste should enter into the equation though, don't you think?
I bet this guy is proud of his individuality.
