Default Carbon Propshafts

Any of you guys got a carbon Propshaft on your s2000?

I have heard they only weigh 4kg think the standard is about 8-9? Gives a good overall mass saving and improves throttle response - less turning inertia.

Found a company in the UK that make them for motorsport applications including GT cars.

Anyone know anything about them

ASM makes one for the S2000, but honestly, there are a lot better places to spend your money.

That ASM price is very expensive.

I got in contact with CTG and their price is much more reasonable,

Unless you have extra cash lying around and you can't find ANY other area on the car to spend it on...I wouldn't get a carbon drive-shaft. The weight savings aren't that great and the stock shaft is MORE than capabable of handling most anything your average Joe will throw at it.

We devloped carbon fiber half-shafts for our formula car two years ago and never used them. They were PAINFULLY over-engineered but they looked really sweet. They were about 2.5" in diameter compared to 7/8" similarly spec'd steel shafts. The steel shafts ended up being slightly heavier, but the cost and inertia savings tipped the scales the other way.

No way I would pay $5500 for a drive shaft!

I'm not so pessimistic If $1900 can be spent to halve the weight of the driveshaft, that might be pretty worthwhile. Please let us know how it goes if you get one.

Heard from a few other guys who have used them on their hondas.

I think to be clear the propshaft is the large shaft driving the power from the engine to the rear of the car. Some americans call them driveshafts i believe. Where as a driveshaft in the uk drives each individual wheel i think americans call them halfshafts?

Yeh they seem to be a good buy and for $1900 isnt too bad a price.
They do look good, unfortunate their hidden under the car!
