Default Carfax VS. Autocheck.

Has anyone used Autocheck for car records? How do they compare to Carfax? Carfax has raised their prices since the last time I used it. With Carfax, the unlimited 30 day is now $39.99 (was $24.99) whereas Autocheck is $24.99 for unlimited 60 days.

I used AutoCheck while searching for my current vehicle and I'm very glad that I did. In several cases it caught things that CarFax did not- especially frame/water damage announced at auction but nowhere else. I even found a dealership whose whole business model revolved around finding those cars that CarFax "missed" and then selling them to poor folk who didn't know any better (complete with free CarFax report, naturally).

That being said, Carfax did present me with more accessible information, whereas AutoCheck wasn't quite as user friendly. I'd say if you're going to spend thousands of dollars on a vehicle, pay $50 up front to get both checks so that you'll have extra peace of mind. If I was forced to go back and only pick one I would've picked AutoCheck, however.

Just be aware that carfax is innacurate.

I find it funny that as I am reading this post the advertising banner is "Don't buy a car without a CARFAX report"...,

I checked both for added peace of mind, but the info was identical on my reports.

They are both only as good as what is reported to them. If the body shop does not report the accident or no police report, both will show clean. It is best to take someone with you who knows what to look for.

I agree with both roadie and Jay. Have both checks done when you seriously consider buying, but always go with someone knowledgeable who can analyze the car in person to look for warning signs.

I had both and I found autocheck was a bit more accurate. It was also cheaper and lasted longer than carfax. Both are less accurate than visually checking out the car and knowing what to look for though.

After looking at the link provided by The Gent, I'm a bit surprised by the amount of people that got ripped off by carfax and the amount of inaccurate info. While in some cases it's not carfax's fault if things are not reported but I feel like I can't trust them anymore.
