For those of you who have installed or have looked at the exhaust components on the Stook I have a question. While installing an HKS exhaust over the weekend I had no problem removing two of the three nuts that connect the cat. to the exhaust section. However, one nut was a bitch to remove, requiring a breaker bar the whole way. Once removed I found that the bolt and nut were stripped. I am assuming that the nut was cross-threaded from the factory. The bolt appears to be press fit into the flange on the cat. Do any of you know how I can remove the bolt? And no sledgehammer jokes!

Ming. can you be more specific. Brute-force sounds like a hammer or something.

Sorry you had the problem, mine was not that way. Normally the way you would take out a pressed in bolt is to drill it out carefully to preserve the flange for the replacement. I know it is a tough spot to work and you might want to consider removing the cat (hopefully the nuts on the other side are ok) to work on it.

Chris, that is what I was considering. Two of the nuts were so easy, once I broke them loose I was able to remove them with my fingers. Other than that the install was a cinch. I had no problem with the hangers once I sprayed them with some silicone.

I don't see the bolt being re-usable. It is pretty much bare of any threads at the end.

I met with a service advisor at Lute Riley Honda last night who decided they could get the bolts out using a press. He did some research after I left and determined that the studs are replaceable and ordered a set as well. Great service.

What torque setting should be used on the bolts when installing the HKS exhaust?

I have heard and understand from others on the board that 25ftlbs is sufficient.
