CEL broken ?
sooner or later this happens to everyone i think ........ went into 3rd instead 5th, and it rev'ed up to 8600 (AP 2). While that would be normal operation for the AP1, it's probably not so much for the AP 2. i'm not really concerned because the engine should be able to take it for the fraction of a second, but somewhere here it was said that the CEL should come on in AP2 when revving to high, and it didn't. so any more intelligence here when its should really come on ?
you'll know ifyou caused any kind of damage. you would hear and definately feel a bent valve. I've seen ap2s go to 9k and not do any damage as long as its not like on a daily basis. the cel that comes on from overrevving is usually when u bend a valve causing a misfire. in that case the cel would be blinking.
a bent valve to me sounds like a muscle car with some big cams or second, like a cla cla cla cla, or also like a diesel. car would also have no power and rock side to side. I know this because I was a victim

no strange noises here - just curious, how would a bent valve SOUND ? like diesel clatter ?

Bent valve won't close fully, so one (or more) cylinders won't be firing at all. The engine will jump around wildly while idling, and will pull poorly. It's a problem you cannot possibly overlook. So, if your car is running normally, it's fine. You'd know without any doubt if you'd bent a valve.

From the descriptions, it sounds pretty close to a misfire, bad spark plug
