This is likely old news, but I was searching for a new clutch plate for my 1990 Celica GT (with the Supra Chasis) and ran across this article:

http://www.zabb.com/open/four/celica-toyota-2000.htm

I thought the author was going to go right into the specs for the S2000...

I almost bought a 2000 Celica GTS. I wasn't fond of the rear styling. Then I drove it... needless to say it underimpressed me and I actually preferred driving the '90 Celica.

I drove an early Celica once. At a set of lights I floored it - went sideways quicker than I went forwards!!!

Uh, what exactly do you mean when you say the Supra Chassis? As I recall, in 1986 the Celica and Supra went their seperate ways with the Supra retaining rear drive and the Celica getting front drive...

Yes, I believe the Supra did split from the Celica Line in 86, but in 1990 they were building the Celica with the Supra Chasis (in other words the frame/suspension). The drivetrains of course were separate. I can't remember where I read this information or I'd give you a reference, but its been so long since I read the review that it would be difficult to find the article again...and I did do a few searches online for it.

Manufacturers do it all the time- build 2 cars that share the same chasis that is. I believe I read that the Neon shares a chasis with the PT Cruiser.

If I find the review, I'll post a link here...

I may be wrong but in 1990 the Celica was front wheel drive and the Supra was rear wheel drive. They were completely different cars. I also believe the celica (I very well could be wrong about this also) was a transverse mounted 4 cylinder and the supra was a longitudinal inline 6. If this was the case I don't know how the chasis' could be interchangeable.

haha, well I didn't make the car, so I'm not certain. Its just something I read before buying it and it stuck in my head. It came from a car review... I thought it was on Motor Trend or Motor Week, but they don't appear to have any reviews on their site older than 94.

Could it have been that they used the same wishbone suspension?

Anyway, I like the Celica GT too...mine needs a new clutch- and from what I hear its going to be a difficult job since its FWD.

I dont believe there are ANY interchangable parts between the 2 cars... perhaps some parts "derived" from the Supra made their way into the Celica...

But then double wishbone suspension derived from racecars made their way into a lot of Honda automobiles

I know my parents 87 Celica GT-S and their 88 Supra Turbo both had the same steering wheel and seats, so some parts can be shared... just seems like nothing mechanical was shared
