Default Ceramic brakes as an option?

I think that ceramic brakes would be a huge benefit in perormance and reliability particulalry those who autocross or run track days. They would weight less, last longer, and perform better.

It would probably be cheaper to buy aluminum control arms for the weight savings.

ceramic brakes on a 30K car? are you kidding?

Chevy wants to make them a 4K option on the Z06, but they can't yet as even GM can't get ceramic brakes that cheap.

Porsche is also the most profitable automobile company in the industry, because they price gouge. I am not saying it is possible right now to produce ceramic brakes for $2,000 but it will be in the not so distant future. The life of the rotors would outlast the car meaning you would never have to replace the rotors. There are many benefits to this material and that is why it is used in the best performance cars today, and i bet the next NSX will have ceramic brakes.

I really don't see the point in this. The S2K's brakes are terrific as is. + the rotors/pads are cheap to replace.

For those who track their cars (and I don't mean the occaisional Solo II event), this could make sense. For street use, it would seem like more of a 'bling' factor item.

foolio- do you know somebody who makes aluminum a-arms? I'd be interested in learning more about them (provided they're not some junky 6061 bits).

Something interesting:

(from a web search: http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_...82/ai_92285250)

"Although management is pessimistic about adopting aluminum for its main model lineup, it believes the lightweight material has potential in specialty cars like the hybrid Insight or S2000 sports car. And demand in these niche segments will be not only for body panels but for suspension parts including control arms and knuckles."

Also, guys, take a look at these aluminum parts right from the go fast lab... These aren't A arms, but this bump steer kit might be interesting: http://marketplace.s2ki.com/s2ki/product.p...23&cat=0&page=1

Finally, there are some interesting pieces here from modacar: http://www.modacar.com/products/Honda/S2000/MODASTB/
