Default Certain type of windshield glass to use?

I've had my S2000 for 3 and 1/2 years and 2 days ago I just cracked my 3rd windshield. I was maintaining a pretty far back driving distance and it was a small car that spit up the pebble, not a truck. This is just flat out ridiculous. It seemed like the slightest impact causes the windshield to crack. As this was already my second replacement windshield I have to wonder that maybe Safelite has been using an inferior (compared to OEM at least) type of glass? I find it hard to believe that the windshield on our car is this fragile.

For comparison I've had my Integra for 13 years (and driven it over 160k miles) and have never cracked the windshield. That car's hood is just as low to the ground as the S2000's (if not lower) though I realize that it's windshield angle isn't as upright. Regardless, this just seems wrong to me.

Since I've had this problem before with the S2000 my insurance deductible (for glass/vandalism) is $0. However, when I call my agent later today should I inquire about glass quality before arranging to have someone come replace the windshield?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Has your car ever been hit ...I've driven an S for over 150k and have yet to crack or even chip my windshield seriously enough to fix.

Well I inflicted some from end damage about 6 weeks ago actually but it's all been repaired and there was no structural damage. So that was after the first 2 cracks. Also the crack I have right now is in the same spot as the last one, and is the same shape. Kinda odd actually.

It is all based on the upright windshield. I am 2.5 years in mine and on the 3rd windshield.

Also the snadblasting it gets over time is ridiculous. Trying to figure out how I can do the endurance race thing with the multiple layers of plastic, that I pull off when sandblasted through.

On the ++ side the glass is only about 250 installed for the PPG

Those NASCAR type windshield tear-offs would be pretty cool for long high speed trips. It's mostly luck IMO, these days all manufacturers run thinner windshields which reduce weight and boost their CAFE ratings. I have a lot of small chips from rocks being thrown up from the crappy roads in my town but so far no breaks (knock on wood). Past few years I've replaced 3 windshields on other cars from foreign object damage, including the result of a water balloon thrown from a high rise condo (!).

The drive to and back from Los Angeles to Vegas is a killer. I see a lot of fun cars doing this drive. I was driving my friend's new black 335 on a very windy day and a tumbleweed ended up scratching a quarter of the drivers side. I tried to never bring that back up. I could only imagine doing something similar to a fast 4 hour drive or canyon running as killing our windshields. Doing a canyon run on certain mountains in LA will pelt the glass completely. Which I would imagine certain driving styles would make this even worse. I just had 2 chips fixed, and one of the fixed chips is starting to show a crack. Can't complain as the car has been up in the mountains constantly since I got it.

I've got 11 years and 260k miles on my original windshield. IT IS DONE! No cracks/spiders, but it is sandblasted and chipped. I really need to replace it, but I'm worried that I'll end up with an inferior wavy windshield. OEM glass has been awesome for me, but what aftermarket glass is good? PPG, Pilkington, etc?
