Chalk up one more replaced rear diff.
Anybody keeping a tally of how many members have had rear differential problems? (I'd also be curious to know if it's a model year '00 phenomenon...).
Anyway, my car has had for a month or os the familiar rear end "click" debated endlessly in the various "is it the brakes or the diff" threads on this board. In addition (no idea if this is actually related or not), my car developed what sounds like a bad gear whine noise when the transmission is under load after the TWS track event. (It whines going uphill, but not downhill.; whines accellerating but not decellerating; whines with clutch engaged but not when disengaged). Definitely not the brakes or something rubbing on the tires. Anyway, took it to Honda, and after having the car less than two hours, they called to say they've ordered me a new rear differential. Add one more to any rear-end-issues tally going on.
We'll see if the car comes out better than going in (I am unfortunately the dealer service department's guinea pig, this being their first rear diff. issue. Compound this by the fear that all other Hondas are front wheel drive -- not too many learning experiences for the techs... Hope all ends well *knock on wood*).
Moral of the story -- all you people with the "click", get the dealer to listen to the problem. It may just be the brakes, but don't take the chance!
Cheers,
Audball

When the dealer replaces it, they replace the entire rear-end unit, which isn't all that difficult. Granted, Penske Honda managed to strip ALL the hex bolts on my propshaft and overtorque everything, but any COMPETANT service department should have no problem just replacing the unit.
REBUILDING the rear end is a MUCH different story. I would NEVER trust a dealer to do that for me. I spent an entire weekend on mine along with the help of a long-time drag car builder who helped me make sure everything was set up exactly right.
Good luck with it and I hope you don't have any more problems with it.
