Default Changing Air Filter

Hi everyone,

Note : I'm newbie with S2000 and have not yet received my new MY2001 Silver/Red.

Is someone can explain me what are the benefits to change the Air Filter (power, sound or anythin else) ?

What's the best one delivered in Europe ?

TIA,

Documented power gains have been somewhat vague. 2-3 hp gains with a hi-flow filter is not much really even if it were real. I just feel that if it helps the engine breath better, I feel good about it. Sound wise, you can't really hear it through all the noise of a convertable unless you leave the top of the airbox off but then you'll lose power. I don't know what a stock filter costs but with the JR filter (and the like) I know I will never have to buy another filter again. To me, this is a good thing. I think the JR is produced in France? And you must be able to get K&N in Europe, can't you? These two are very similar in design and performance and it's a matter of personal taste which one is "better".

I have a Comptech filter and find one thing noteworthy in it's construction. The Honda filter is closed on the end and the replacement filter does have filter material there. That makes more square inches of filter area, so should be able to get more air. I don't notice any difference in sound or performance but I wouldn't expect 3-4 hp to be discernable except on a stopwatch. At about the same time I changed the exhaust and it's louder, probably masking any noise from the engine compartment - until the engine reaches rpm, then it actually sounds louder than the exhaust. I like to think I've broken the sound barrier and left the exhaust noise behind!

I have the JR (French made I believe). I really didn't notice much difference, but they say 2-3 HP. But like all the cleanable filters, you don't have to replace it.

Welcome

Welcome to the board. There are several aftermarket filters available. The fact that the end is filter and not closed is really meaningless. The key is surface area and flow of the filter. One extra "open" pleat will more then make up for the closed end. As previous posters have noted 2-3 HP increases on the dyno are common. When I first installed I noticed the definite change in sound and power of the JR. I am currently running the JR, made in France; and here in the states distributed by Richard Ming at Import Developement (a board sponser-scroll down). There is also a Comptech unit(scroll down again), which is foam element said to be pretty good. The most recent entry into the market is K&N; part numbers:
1) Air Filter KNN E-2435
2) Clean and oil kit KNN 99-5000
3) Oil Filter KN HP-1004

Available on the net from :http://www.martelbros.com/cgi-bin/store/ws...&pwd=8017252763

These units are currently few and far between; have one on order as K&N used to sponser my CBR600 F3 in the early 90's.

Many thanks to all for your replies. I think to replace the original filter when I receive my baby.
