Default Chassis Codes

I just thought I would throw a point out to decrease some confusion and some misconeptions on this board, then I'll pose a question.

As we all know, all 00-03's are designated as AP1's.

Most people here designate 04+ as AP2. This is incorrect. Only the 2.2L equipped 04+ are AP2. Europe, Japan etc....who kept the 2.0L are still known as AP1's.

Now I DO realize that most will say that the AP2 for all +04 is used to simplify the difference between it and the 00-03 model, but I just wanted to make sure the facts are known. I only bring this up because I see things like "AP2 wheels for sale" or "can I put AP2 headlights on an AP1".

Well, these statements may be inaccurate, and may mislead our overseas visitors who's cars are actually STILL AP1's. North America is the only place where AP2 exists.

Now here's my question, what chassis code will the 06 hold?

do non-us markets get the new style cosmetics? if so then i dont see the problem. even if they dont this website is mainly focused on the us market, which makes the distinction valid. what do you suggest we say instead of ap2?

The thing is, we already call the engine differences by F20C and F22C. Theres no point in having the AP#s represent the engines also.

yes, the overseas 04+ look exactly like the north american AP2's in terms of cosmetics.

I don't have a suggestion, I was just pointing out something that I fear may confuse overseas visitors to this site.

ok, say you're some dude from england - you have an 04 s2000 with the f20c engine. Your VIN will say AP1 on it.

You go to the forum and you see AP1 rims for sale, only to find out they are 03 rims, and not the ones he was looking for.

Or you crack a headlight on your european 04, so you go on the WTB section asking for a new AP1 headlight, only to recieve an 03 headlight instead of an 04.

See what I'm saying?

In that case, some dude (ette) from England should specify that he (or she) has a "European" AP1.

Basically, the European AP1 is the same as a US AP2, but with the F20C motor.

If what you say is true, the codes follow the engine displacement and not the body style. That suggests there will be no change in the chassis codes for '06, since there is no change in engine displacement for either North America or the rest of the world.

Given that I like to know intricacies such as this about my car....I appreciate the info. I had made the assumption about the AP1 and AP2 cars differing changing from '03 to '04 the world over.
